Sugar House Cowl

imageSugarhouse Cowl is named after the area of Salt Lake City, Utah where I found the lovely knit store, Blazing Needles, where I purchased the beautiful yarn I used in this open work cabled cowl. I saw some photos of open work cables and loved how the cables lay flat against the fabric, so I decided to figure out how to knit them. I decided on the raspberry stitch as a fun texture contrast which works nicely with the stockinette of the cables. This cowl is the perfect length to wear long or wrap twice around the neck.

PATTERN NOTES
In working an open-row cables, it’s necessary to work half a row up to the end of each cable, then with a separate skein of yarn, work the other half to match. Only at the top of each cable do you work a whole row. THIS IS A LOT EASIER THAN IT SOUNDS! When trying something new in knitting I adhere to the old adage…close your eyes and jump😊 I mean what’s the worst that can happen, right?!?!
So, I have marked the rows as 1, 2, 3, and 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and so forth. Just letting you know that I totally made this notation up! So if anyone has a better idea of how to more clearly notate this open work cable pattern, please let me know. You can contact me on ravelry – my user name is ANoviceKnitter (for a reason!)
